about

Fingerprints, Blueprints, Prototypes, and Archetypes... The final puzzle piece in John Rolodex's Reflection Series arrives in the form of this two-track release. The series has been characterized by Rolodex's exploration of his sound and search for new ways to incorporate deeper meaning into his music. These tracks offer a fitting terminus for what has been considered by many to be some of his finest work.

If ethos and methodology are what separate Rolodex from his peers, "Archetypes" is key evidence in building the case for this distinction. Collecting the original sample sources for this tune over many months, he's carefully constructed an homage to some of the tracks which have had the greatest influence on his work. "Archetypes" connects a number of facets of the audible iconography that has characterized much of Rolodex's work. A peer-reviewed physicist in the field of drop mechanics, he delivers what his fans have come to rely on from the first drop. Unsatisfied with simply repeating himself, the second drop offers an entirely new direction in rhythm and ingredients until it makes way for an unusual third drop which picks up where the first left off. The track has enjoyed early support from a number of key figures in DnB.

Rolodex joins forces with Saskatoon-based, UK export Embers of Light on "Fever Dream." This emotive roller demonstrates a high watermark of musicality for the two artists. Gradually building from a guitar arpeggiation, the track demonstrates attention to detail and careful musical progression before a switch in bassline takes the dream in a new direction. The second drop offers a nasty take on the first drop's progression while maintaining careful cohesion and balance of flavours.
