about

Following up the success of John Rolodex's acclaimed DreamCypher EP, Machinist Music teamed up with Native Instruments and Metapop.com on a remix competition. This EP includes the five winning remix entries along with "InnaZone" remixes from two rising stars in DnB: Fuj and Jake Robertz. John Rolodex's VIP of "Until the Sky Takes Me" rounds out the release.

Julian Olvera eases us in with his soundtrack-esque instrumental take on "DreamCypher." Expanding on the musicality of the original, the young Houston, Texas-based producer conjures memories of John Carpenter's work with his piece. If this is any indication, Olvera has a very bright future ahead of him!

Hailing from Ukraine, Drumliar provides the Native Instruments prize-winning competition entry. True to the original track, Drumliar maintains the halftime tempo but introduces his own rhythmic flavour. The remix brings futuristic dancefloor music without losing the depth of the "DreamCypher." One for the heads and the club.

A name familiar to all dnb heads in recent times, Fuj serves up a heavy slab with his techstep-influenced 'InnaZone' remix. Departing from the two step rhythm of the original, Fuj takes us deep into the dark and heavy zone. Heavy and a little challenging, Fuj takes us to the edge with this one.

Dj Mastas, an artist based in Bromyard, UK, brings the jungle vibe with his 'DreamCypher' remix. Distorted bass and classic breakbeats transport us back to the warehouse days. A relentless sidestep roller. Simple, elegant, well-executed.

John Rolodex serves up another slab of junglistic nostalgia with his VIP version of 'Until the Sky Takes Me'. The original being an homage to Rufige Cru and Source Direct of the early 90s; the VIP takes it a step further adding an amen break and a bit more choppage for the second drop. Veteran business.

Hailing from Edmonton, Canada, Jake Robertz may be a new name to some in dnb. However his 2018 release schedule will change all that. His 'InnaZone' remix showcases his well-developed sense of sound design and signature dnb aesthetic. Building on the musicality of the original, the track starts off with deep atmospherics but drops into an infectious and heavy roller. Undeniable.

San Francisco-based Cypher. brings a quirky, glitch-influenced approach to his 'DreamCypher' remix. Skirting the perimeter of dnb, halftime and glitch-hop, Cypher. showcases his sound design and extremely detailed style. The computer-generated voice sample near the end demonstrates a great sense of humour to round things out. An excellent remix from a producer to watch!

Finally Dracarys, an artist based in Reading, UK, brings the danger with his heavyweight take on 'DreamCypher'. Clangy side-stepping breakbeats and nasty bass throughout. This take-no-prisoners flavour will suit Dillinja and Current Value fans alike. Turn it up loud, fuck up the dance, upset your neighbours.
